WASHINGTON/NEW YORK – In 2005, Ms Fang Gong arrived in the United States as a young student from Tianjin, China.
On Tuesday, she was elected to the board of education in Livingston, New Jersey – earning a mandate to set policies for the school district and shaping the future for the population of around 31,000 people, of whom 28 per cent are Asian Americans.
