Central and South American media outlets have responded to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with a mixture of deja vu and consternation, triggered by the role the United States has played over centuries in continental affairs.

For though televised images of destruction have roused sympathy for Ukraine in the Americas, they have also invoked memories of US intervention throughout the Western Hemisphere.
