The continuity at Chelsea has tended to come from the players, not the managers. Just look at the FA Cup. Chelsea have won it eight times, under eight different managers. Perhaps it will become nine under nine this year, but it would be Frank Lampard's fifth FA Cup with Chelsea.
It is a reminder of his extraordinary achievements as a player. In different ways, Lampard the coach has brought continuity and change to Chelsea. Not since John Hollins in 1985 has a new manager come to Stamford Bridge with such a grounding in the club.
