You don't have to be a Liverpool fan to hail their team. You don't have to recite Bill Shankly's entire stats after six beers, have a photo of Kenny in your wallet and swear by Gerry and the Pacemakers to smile at their triumph. You don't have to be a signatory to any Statue Of Klopp petition to admire the making of this history.

This is a wondrous sports story from any angle because it comprises so many of the things we cherish in sport - patience, faith, endurance, romance, revival. This is 25-year-olds waiting till they were grandfathers for their club to win a title again. This is the plainest truth of sport which is that nothing is deserved and everything is earned. It's not how long you wait, it's only how well you play.
