Ninety-nine years ago as a theological student in spikes readied himself for a test of faith he got a Biblical helping hand. It was July 1924, the 400m finals at the Paris Olympics, and Eric Liddell – made famous in the film Chariots of Fire – was passed a note from a team masseur which contained a line from the Bible.
