When Mikaela's unmarried birth mother decided to give the toddler up for adoption, her foster parents - who had been looking after her since she was born - did not hesitate to adopt her.
Public servant Kelvin Lim and his homemaker wife Tay Hwee Ling, both 43, have four children of their own, who are aged between 12 and 16. Madam Tay said: "It felt like Mikaela was meant for us, like it was destined. Everyone adores her and we felt we are the only family she knows."
