SINGAPORE - Classic Tetris may have have been around since 1984, but the video game is still as popular as ever.

Chng Ming Shin, 24, was recently crowned Singapore's first Classic Tetris Champion at a competition organised by James Cook University on May 28. More than 50 people took part in the inaugural competition.

The applied maths and computer science undergraduate at the National University of Singapore won a $300, a trophy and $40 gaming headset.

He hopes to represent Singapore in the Classic Tetris World Championship, which will be held in October in Portland, Oregon, where he will face far more experienced competition.
