France marked a key milestone recently in its relations with Asean, one which gives a boost to the country's goal of playing a more active role in the region.

Last month, Asean granted France the status of Development Partner, in recognition of its efforts in promoting multilateralism, sustainable development, and peace and security in the region. Given Asean's centrality in a strategic region, this is a plus for French efforts to contribute to an inclusive Indo-Pacific.
