Different cultural contexts take to different kinds of rhetorical strategies, said Dr Gene Segarra Navera, who teaches the class Citizen Speak: Persuasion and Polarisation in Society at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Referring to case studies of rhetoric used by Singapore-based social movements, Dr Navera said a common persuasive strategy used in the local context is “concession-refutation”.
