The Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan's oldest political party and the largest in opposition, elected the younger of two candidates to be its leader recently, signalling that it is ready for change.
The KMT's members in a ballot on March 7 chose popular lawmaker Johnny Chiang, who at 48 will be the youngest-ever person to lead the 107-year-old party, over 68-year-old Hau Lung-pin, a former mayor of Taipei.
