With India's economy in a state of funk and growing at its slowest pace in 11 years, it was a bad time for the country's Finance Minister, Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, to come up with an underwhelming annual Budget. But that, alas, was what she did on Saturday, in an almost three-hour long speech that tested the patience of Indian MPs.

"Too long to absorb" was the verdict of former prime minister and finance minister Manmohan Singh, when asked what he thought of the Budget.
