Official 0-100kmh timings are taken on a clear, straight test track. Car manufacturers track the average time measured with more than one vehicle before a figure is recorded and used in its technical specifications.

While the timing does provide a good point of reference, it does not illustrate a car’s in-gear performance or top speed. Neither does it reveal the engine’s responsiveness and on-road performance characteristics.
