BEIJING - Mr Li Jingwei remembers the paddy terraces surrounding his childhood home, the water buffalo working the land, and the bamboo forest that lay just beyond his little village nestled within the mountains of Yanjin County in Yunnan province.

It was from these placid surroundings that he was abducted as a four-year-old.
